Sweet Support: Heather Secondary Learners rally for the Cancer cause

5/30/2025

Learners from Heather Secondary showed their hearts are just as big as their talents when they hosted a Cupcakes for Cancer event. With colourful cupcakes and cheerful smiles, they raised both awareness and funds for cancer patients across the country.

This heartwarming initiative is about much more than sweet treats — it’s a powerful reminder of the small acts of kindness that can make a big difference. By baking and selling cupcakes, our learners are supporting those currently battling cancer, shining a light on the importance of early detection, support networks, and community care.

Events like these also teach learners valuable life skills – from planning and teamwork to empathy and social responsibility. As a school community, we’re incredibly proud to see our scholars taking initiative and showing leadership in such meaningful ways. Every cupcake sold was a symbol of hope, and every rand raised will go towards cancer treatment, research, and helping families cope during difficult times. Well done to all involved – your compassion and energy are truly inspiring!

The success of our Cupcakes for Cancer event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible group of learners who poured their time, creativity, and compassion into every cupcake sold. These young change makers from Grade 12E took the lead in planning, baking and decorating – all with one goal in mind: to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Their teamwork, dedication, and positive spirit turned a simple bake sale into a powerful act of love and solidarity.

The inspiring learners who made it all happen:

Caleb Durgaparsad

Abbegail Govender

Zechariah Govender

Gyle Laljeeth

Jodie Mahes

Abigail Reddy

Tegan Tommy

The team raised their game again and also managed a raffle held by 12E as part of their Cancer fundraiser which saw our principal, Mr Reddy, select the winner, Avantika Sirpath. Congratulations Avantika - we hope you enjoy your spoils!
