An emblem that matters
Uncovering the truths of our emblem

The school emblem was designed by Mr D.E. Clapham, a member of the Heraldic Society.
A. Shield Shape is a classic symbol of protection and tradition.
B. The colour maroon symbolises patient and victorious strength underpinned by a willingness to endure hardships. It conveys a sense of earthiness and grounding, as well as solemnity and controlled power, evoking a sense of tradition, resilience, and the serious pursuit of knowledge.
C. White or silver, which is termed "argent," symbolises purity, innocence, beauty, and peace. It often represents transparency, sincerity, and truth; indicating our commitment to these ideals, a foundation of integrity, and an aspiration towards creating a peaceful and truthful academic environment.
D. The colour green is referred to as "vert." It traditionally symbolises hope, joy, and loyalty in love and is often associated with growth, renewal, and fertility due to its connection with nature and the natural world. In the context of our emblem, the use of green emphasises a commitment to growth—both intellectual and personal—and the nurturing of hope and joy in the educational journey.
E. Sunburst: Indicates enlightenment and the dawning of a new era.
F. Open Book: Represents knowledge and the spirit of inquiry.
G. Sprigs of the branched heather shrub: The heather shrub, of the genus Calluna, is a small, evergreen plant producing bell-shaped flowers, which can range in colour from white to pink to purple. The plant is known for its hardiness and ability to thrive in poor soils.
H. Motto on the Ribbon: "By Concord and Harmony" is a guiding principle for creating a cohesive, inclusive, and supportive educational community, where all stakeholders work together to achieve personal and collective goals in a respectful and peaceful manner
