Excellence on Display: Heather Secondary School Shines at the 2025 Northdale Circuit NSC Excellence Awards

Excellence, when it is earned, deserves to be named. At the 2025 Northdale Circuit NSC Excellence Awards, held at Heather Hall, Heather Secondary School did not simply attend — it dominated, and did so across the full breadth of what a school can achieve.

The evening brought together the circuit's finest, but it was Heather Secondary's educators who stood out time and again, collecting honour after honour in recognition of what they and their learners had built together over the course of the 2025 academic year.

25 educators. 31 awards. One remarkable school.

A total of 25 Heather Secondary educators were recognised on the night, collectively receiving 31 awards — for subject pass rates above 90% and for producing the highest marks in the Northdale Circuit. These are not participation awards. They are the result of deliberate, sustained, expert teaching, and of learners who rose to meet the standard their teachers set.

Alongside these individual honours, the school was recognised for its exceptional 97.2% NSC pass rate — a figure that cements Heather Secondary's position as one of the leading institutions in the circuit and a benchmark for what is possible in South African public education.

Six subjects. Six perfect scores.

Among the evening's most striking achievements were the six subjects in which Heather Secondary recorded a perfect 100% pass rate. Business Studies, Consumer Studies, Engineering Graphics and Design, Information Technology, Life Orientation, and Tourism — each one a complete success. Every learner who sat those examinations passed. That is not an accident. It is the product of teachers who know their subjects deeply, care about their learners genuinely, and prepare both with extraordinary rigour.

Highest in the circuit

Heather Secondary also claimed the Highest Mark in Circuit distinction in five subjects: Business Studies, Economics, Engineering Graphics and Design, English Home Language, and isiZulu First Additional Language. To lead the circuit in a single subject is an achievement. To lead it in five is a statement about the culture of this school — one that expects excellence not as an exception, but as a standard.
