Honouring Academic Excellence

1/22/2026

Some evenings leave a mark. On 22 January 2026, Heather Hall filled with the kind of energy that only comes when a community gathers to celebrate what its young people have achieved. Heather Secondary School's 44th Annual Awards Ceremony was exactly that — a joyful, proud, and deeply meaningful occasion.

The numbers alone tell a remarkable story. A total of 148 awardees received 175 awards on the night, each one representing hours of effort, commitment, and perseverance across the 2025 academic year. But behind every statistic is a learner who showed up, worked hard, and chose excellence.

A pass rate to be proud of

At the heart of the evening's celebrations was a result that the entire school community can wear with pride: a 97.2% NSC pass rate for the Class of 2025. In a country where quality education remains hard-won, and in a year that tested learners and educators alike, this achievement stands as a genuine measure of what Heather Secondary is made of.

It is a result that belongs to everyone — to the learners who sat the examinations, to the educators who prepared them, and to the families who supported them through it all.

Distinguished guests

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Guest of Honour Mrs Thobekile Gambu, whose attendance lent the evening a fitting sense of occasion. Also present were Circuit Manager Ms T.C. Langa and Mr T.L. Mvubu, CES uMngeni CMC — a reminder that the achievements celebrated at Heather Secondary resonate well beyond our school gates.

Their presence affirmed what those in the hall already knew: that what happens at this school matters, and that the wider education community is watching and proud.

More than awards — a celebration of community

What made the 44th Annual Awards Ceremony truly special was not only what was handed out on stage, but what filled the room around it. Parents, staff, and learners came together in a spirit of shared joy, celebrating not just individual achievement but the collective identity of a school that holds its learners to the highest standard.

Evenings like these are why schools exist. They are the moments when the daily work of teaching and learning reveals its full meaning — when a young person walks across a stage and feels, perhaps for the first time, the full weight of what they have accomplished.

Looking ahead

As Heather Secondary marks 44 years of this tradition, the ceremony serves as both a celebration of the past and an investment in the future. Every learner who received an award on 22 January carries with them a reminder of what they are capable of — and a standard to carry forward.

Congratulations to every awardee, to the Class of 2025, and to every member of the Heather Secondary community who made this evening possible.
