Young Voices Making Waves in Debate and Writing

8/1/2025

Heather Secondary School continues to shine as our learners boldly step into the spotlight, showcasing not just talent, but tenacity.

A huge congratulations goes out to Kaivalya Sewraj, who proudly represented our school at the Provincial Debating Championships hosted at Northwood School. With over 300 learners participating from across the province, Kaivalya held her own with intellect and eloquence, securing an outstanding 8th place finish. Her performance was not only a personal triumph but also a powerful representation of the calibre of learners we are nurturing at Heather.

But the spotlight doesn’t stop there!

A team of eight budding authors from Grades 9 to 12 have taken their creativity to new heights by entering the prestigious South African Schools Creative Writing Competition. Among them are:

  • 4 Grade 9 learners

  • 1 Grade 10 learner

  • 2 Grade 11 learners

  • 1 Grade 12 learner

Each learner crafted a compelling short story, now submitted for judging – and with it, the exciting possibility of seeing their names and work published for the nation to read. This competition celebrates imagination, originality, and voice – and we’re proud to say our learners brought all three in abundance.

As we await the results, we salute the courage it takes to share one’s voice on both stage and page. Whether it’s through debate or storytelling, Heather learners continue to prove they are thinkers, creators, and leaders in the making.

Watch this space – their stories are just beginning.
